In
1978, Charlie was approached by a team of doctors who had developed a
revolutionary eye implant. The team
was looking for a company to manufacture the implants. Charlie accepted
their proposal and Perfect Eyes Incorporated was conceived.
The Problem
The FDA requires that all information about the patient and the surgery be kept for the life of the patient. In addition, once manufactured and shipped, the implants must be carefully tracked in case the physician or patient needs to be contacted or a recall is required. To facilitate this, an information card to be filled out by the surgery center is sent with each lens. Originally, the completed cards were returned to Perfect Eyes Inc. and the information was manually entered into a database - a process that was tedious and full of errors. The cards were then stored in an on-site facility. If one needed to be retrieved, it could take hours or days and, as the database grew into the millions, sometimes couldn't be found at all. Charlie wanted to make the processes more efficient.
Our Unique and Rapidly
Implemented Solution
An Internet-based tracking system, utilizing a combination of our unique modules was developed. Using our ProducTrac™ service, Perfect Eyes, Inc. now has the completed registration cards returned to us to be scanned and data-entered. This database of patient surgery information is then accessible online to Perfect Eyes customer service representatives, medical personnel and even FDA auditors at any time, from anywhere. Images of the actual original cards are also accessible on the Internet. Click on the blue link to view an online demonstration of our ProducTrac service With NetQuery™, information in the database can be accessed using an almost limitless variety of criteria. For example if a recall is necessary, Perfect Eyes, Inc. can query the database to find all affected patients and notices can be sent out automatically. In addition, if any cards have missing data, those file are flagged and letters requesting updated patient information are automatically mailed.
